Master Thesis: Participatory Research
For several years now, we have observed the widespread adoption of the terms “citizen science” and “participatory research,” to the point where these words seem to have become part of everyday vocabulary. The purpose of this master thesis is to untangle the various concepts that appear to be intertwined in a confusing media discourse, as well as to examine the measures that have been implemented over the past several years to develop participatory science.

Context & Objectives
For several years now, we have seen the terms “citizen science” and “participatory research” become more widespread, to the point where they seem to have become part of everyday vocabulary. Alongside this, terms such as “open science” and “citizen science” have also emerged, promising the “general public” the opportunity to assist scientists in their quest for knowledge while bringing that same general public closer to the scientific disciplines—making science accessible to the public rather than reserving it for an intellectual elite.
To this end, numerous initiatives have sprouted from public policy efforts and research institutions. Various entities have specialized in this field by developing dedicated platforms or training programs. Significant funding has even been allocated to the development of this methodology
